Staying with Duncan…
Duncan Sheik – White Limousine — 7/10
This one came out in 2006, and it is definitely a different Duncan Sheik album.
A little darker. A little more layered. Lots of atmosphere, strings and those strange little musical turns that Duncan was so good at.
“Hey Casanova” is a really strong opener.
The title track, “White Limousine,” has more bite than a lot of his stuff.
I also really like “The Dawn’s Request,” “I Don’t Believe in Ghosts,” “Nothing Fades” and “I Wouldn’t Mind.”
Then you get songs like “Shopping,” “Land,” “So Gone” and the closing “Hymn,” which keep the whole thing in that moody Duncan world.
It’s not as strong as some of his other albums for me.
But even a Duncan Sheik album that doesn’t completely blow me away is still a pretty damn solid listen.
