🎶 ALBUM VAULT #218 🎶
HAPPY RAINY AND STORMY TUESDAY!
Yep, I’m falling back on my old radio days…
TWO FOR TUESDAY! 😂
Styx – Kilroy Was Here — 7/10
💿 Original Black Vinyl
This album pretty much blew Styx apart.
Dennis DeYoung wanted to go bigger, more theatrical and more conceptual. Tommy Shaw and J.Y. wanted Styx to stay closer to being a rock band. Kilroy Was Here pushed that argument right to the front, complete with costumes, characters, a movie opening the concerts and a whole rock-opera story. By the end of the tour, everybody had pretty much had enough.
Of course “Mr. Roboto” was the giant hit, reaching #3.
But if you ask me…
“Don’t Let It End” is the REAL hit on this album.
Great Dennis DeYoung ballad and it reached #6 itself. I’ll take that one over “Roboto” any day.
There are some other decent tracks here, including “Cold War,” “Heavy Metal Poisoning,” “Just Get Through This Night” and “Haven’t We Been Here Before?”
But this album will always be remembered as the point where Styx got a little too ambitious for its own good.
Dennis has been out of Styx since 1999 and still talks about wishing they could have one last reunion for the fans. Styx, meanwhile, keeps rolling with Tommy Shaw, J.Y., Lawrence Gowan and the current lineup, even releasing new music.
So yeah…
Interesting album. Two great hits.
And one hell of a lot of band drama.
