🎶 ALBUM VAULT #242 🎶
Next up on the concert journey…
The Outfield – Bangin’ — 8/10
💿 Black Vinyl
Yep… THIS was the band that opened for Cheap Trick at that Hanover Park show.
And I’m really glad I got to see them.
Tony Lewis and John Spinks are both gone now, which makes that memory hit a little differently today. Tony had that unmistakable voice, John wrote so many of those great songs, and together they gave The Outfield a sound you knew almost immediately.
Bangin’ came out in 1987, following the huge success of Play Deep. It reached #18 on the Billboard 200 and went Gold.
The big one here is “Since You’ve Been Gone”, which reached #31 on the Hot 100 and #11 at rock radio.
Then there’s “Bangin’ on My Heart,” “No Surrender,” “Somewhere in America,” “Alone with You,” “Moving Target” and “Long Way Home.”
Is it Play Deep?
No.
But I really like this album.
There’s something about that Outfield combination of big guitars, huge melodies and Tony Lewis’ voice that just works for me.
And getting to see them open for Cheap Trick?
Yeah… very glad I have that memory.
