Next up, Mick goes solo.
She’s the Boss was Jagger’s first solo album, and you can definitely hear him trying to step outside The Rolling Stones a little bit.
More polished. More ’80s. More funk and pop mixed in with the rock.
And of course, that didn’t exactly thrill Keith Richards. 😂
The Stones were in a pretty rough period around this time, and Mick doing a solo record only added more fuel to that fire.
For me, the big reason to own this one is “Just Another Night.”
Great song.
Great Mick vocal.
And easily the track here that feels the most memorable.
“Lucky in Love” is decent, “She’s the Boss” has some attitude, and “Hard Woman” is another solid one.
But overall?
It’s OK.
Not bad.
Not great.
And definitely not something I’m reaching for before a good Stones album.
Still fun to hear Mick trying something on his own though.
