Rod Stewart – Out of Order — 8/10
💿 Black Original Vinyl
This one takes me straight back to 1989 and a family road trip to Colorado.
I brought maybe 10 tapes with me on that trip, and Out of Order was one of them. So yeah, I heard this thing A LOT.
And honestly, what an album.
“Lost in You” may be my favorite Rod Stewart song. Just an in-your-face track from the second it starts. Great guitar, great vocal, great energy.
“Forever Young” is simply a fantastic song. One of those Rod tracks that never gets old.
“My Heart Can’t Tell You No” is the complete opposite. Beautiful ballad and Rod absolutely nails it.
Then there’s “Dynamite.” It was a single, never became one of the giant Rod hits, but I’ve always liked it.
This album really felt like Rod finding another gear in the late ’80s. Rockers, ballads, big hooks, and that voice all over it.
But for me, this one will always be tied to Colorado, a car ride, and one of those 10 cassettes getting played over and over again.
Funny how music can put you right back in a place.
