🎶 ALBUM VAULT #237 🎶
Back to the concert journey…
Average White Band – AWB — 5/10
My wife and I saw AWB while we were still dating, at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. It was an all-star three-act show, and AWB opened the night.
I wasn’t a huge Average White Band fan going in.
Then they played “Pick Up the Pieces.”
The place went NUTS.
That song was absolutely massive. It went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and on the very same week, AWB hit #1 on the Billboard 200. Pretty impressive for a group of Scottish guys making American-style funk and soul.
The rest of the album has plenty of groove with “You Got It,” “Got the Love,” “Person to Person,” “Work to Do,” “Nothing You Can Do” and “There’s Always Someone Waiting.”
For me though?
It’s OK.
I respect the album more than I LOVE the album.
But that memory of the crowd exploding when “Pick Up the Pieces” started?
THAT I remember.
And we still had two more acts to go…
