🎶 ALBUM VAULT #256 🎶
VINYL ENERGY FLASHBACK DAY continues… ⚡
Daft Punk – Discovery — 8/10
💿 2-Disc Black Vinyl
If Amber was straight-up Energy 92.7&5, Daft Punk is where the whole thing gets a little weirder.
And better.
Daft Punk was Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, two French guys who somehow turned house music, disco, funk, rock and robots into one of the coolest sounds of the era.
Discovery came out in 2001 and this is really where Daft Punk became DAFT PUNK.
The helmets.
The robots.
The whole identity.
And then there are the songs.
“One More Time”
“Digital Love”
“Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”
“Aerodynamic”
“Something About Us”
“Face to Face”
That is a hell of a run.
“One More Time” hit #2 in the UK, “Digital Love” hit #14, and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” became one of those songs that just kept getting bigger years after it came out.
And that song’s DNA ended up EVERYWHERE.
Kanye West eventually sampled it for “Stronger,” which tells you how far this album’s influence reached.
The album itself hit #2 in the UK, and honestly, it still sounds futuristic.
That’s the weird thing.
This record is 25 years old and still doesn’t feel old.
Put this on loud enough and suddenly I’m back in the Energy world again.
Lights flashing.
Bass cranked.
ONE MORE TIME.
⚡ I AM ENERGY. ⚡
