🎶 ALBUM VAULT #235 🎶
Back to the concert list…
Pearl Jam – Vitalogy — 10/10
💿 Black Vinyl
I actually started this one on the Plex server during the LONG drive home.
Then I got home and thought… nope.
This album needs vinyl.
So I started the whole damn thing over.
It’s not wrong. 😂
I saw Pearl Jam at Soldier Field in 1995, right in the middle of their very public battle with Ticketmaster. Pearl Jam had gone after the huge service charges and Ticketmaster’s grip on major venues, even testifying before Congress. By the Vitalogy tour they were trying to use alternative ticketing and non-Ticketmaster venues, which turned touring into a logistical nightmare. The Soldier Field show still happened, with around 47,000 people there.
And yes…
I went with the SAME girl from the R.E.M. concert.
Damn… WHAT WAS HER NAME?
Is she out there? Does she read these? Probably not. 😂
I’m happily married and definitely not looking for some long-lost concert romance, but it is weird how people come in and out of your life. At one point somebody is part of your story, and decades later you can remember the concert, the songs, the building…
but not their damn name.
Anyway… Vitalogy.
WHAT AN ALBUM.
“Spin the Black Circle” hit #18 on the Hot 100 and later won Pearl Jam a Grammy.
“Better Man” was HUGE at rock radio, spending eight weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.
Then you’ve got “Corduroy,” “Not for You,” “Immortality,” “Nothingman,” “Last Exit,” “Tremor Christ” and “Whipping.”
The album itself hit #1 and eventually went 5x Platinum in the U.S.
Pearl Jam were at that point where they were MASSIVE, but they were also actively fighting against the machinery that came with being massive.
And seeing them at Soldier Field during all of that?
Yeah.
That one stays with me.
Even if her name didn’t. 😂
