🎶 ALBUM VAULT #225 🎶
Oh, you think you can act AND sing?
Janet Jackson – Control — 10/10
💿 Original Black Vinyl
Janet had already been acting for years before this album. Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes, Fame… she was already a familiar face on TV.
She had also released two albums that really didn’t go anywhere.
Then came Control.
And everything changed.
This is the album where Janet stopped being “Michael’s little sister” and became JANET JACKSON.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis gave her the perfect sound, but more importantly, Janet finally sounded like SHE was in charge.
And look at these hits:
“What Have You Done for Me Lately” — #4
“Nasty” — #3
“When I Think of You” — #1
“Control” — #5
“Let’s Wait Awhile” — #2
“The Pleasure Principle” — #14
That is a ridiculous run.
The album itself went to #1 on the Billboard 200 and turned Janet into a superstar.
And beyond the hits, “You Can Be Mine,” “He Doesn’t Know I’m Alive” and “Funny How Time Flies” make this a great album front to back.
This wasn’t just a breakout.
This was Janet taking control of everything.
