SOUNDTRACK MONDAY
Office Space – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack — 8/10
💿 Plex Server
The movie itself? 10/10.
Office Space is one of those movies that somehow gets funnier the longer you work in an office. Mike Judge absolutely nailed cubicle life. TPS reports, Lumbergh, Milton and his stapler, Jennifer Aniston and the flair, and of course Peter, Michael and Samir taking that printer into the field. 😂
And the soundtrack is almost as weird as the movie.
If you like some old-school hip-hop, this one is for you. The whole joke is how perfectly gangsta rap works behind three miserable office workers sitting under fluorescent lights. The official album is 12 tracks.
- Canibus with Biz Markie – “Shove This Jay-Oh-Bee” – Perfect title for this movie. Even better over the end credits.
- Slum Village – “Get Dis Money” – Great groove. Plays while Peter and Michael are talking about their little money-making plan.
- Kool Keith – “Get Off My Elevator” – Strange, funky Kool Keith. Fits this soundtrack perfectly.
- Junior Reid – “Big Boss Man” – Reggae flavor dropped right into the middle of all the hip-hop.
- Lisa Stone – “9-5” – A cover of the Dolly Parton classic, because of course a movie about hating your job needs “9 to 5.”
- Ice Cube – “Down for Whatever” – Plays while the guys are loading the virus. Makes computer fraud seem WAY cooler than it probably is.
- Geto Boys – “Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” – One of the defining songs from the movie. Peter finally stops caring and suddenly his life gets better.
- Blackman / Destruct / Icon – “Home” – One of the deeper cuts here, but keeps that late-’90s hip-hop feel going.
- Scarface – “No Tears” – Plays right at the beginning with Michael stuck in traffic trying to be hard. Hilarious scene.
- Geto Boys – “Still” – THE PRINTER SONG. One of the greatest music/movie pairings ever. Three office guys absolutely destroying office equipment like it owes them money. 😂
- Pérez Prado – “Mambo No. 8” – Completely changes gears and gives the soundtrack some old-school lounge flavor.
- Pérez Prado – “The Peanut Vendor” – Another curveball, and somehow it works.
Those big movie moments really do line up with the music: “Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” for Peter’s carefree montage, “Down for Whatever” for the virus, and “Still” for the printer massacre.
The soundtrack is good.
The movie is GREAT.
And if you’ve ever wanted to beat the hell out of an office printer…
You already understand Office Space.
