Next up, The Bangles.
This band had such a great mix of ’60s-style pop, jangly guitars and pure ’80s polish. And then there was Susanna Hoffs…
Those eyes.
Come on. 😂
She could look directly into the camera and suddenly an entire MTV audience forgot what song was playing.
But the music was there too.
“Manic Monday” is a perfect pop song, written by Prince under the name Christopher.
“Walk Like an Egyptian” was HUGE and still sounds completely ridiculous in the best possible way.
“If She Knew What She Wants” is another great one, and “Walking Down Your Street” is one of those songs that sometimes gets forgotten behind the two monster hits.
The cool thing about The Bangles is that they were more than just Susanna Hoffs out front. Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson and Michael Steele all brought something to the band, and the harmonies were a huge part of their sound.
Different Light is just a really fun ’80s record.
Great hooks. Great harmonies. Great songs.
