🎶 ALBUM VAULT #249 🎶
The Concert Journey continues…
Tears for Fears – Songs from the Big Chair — 10/10
💿 Plex Server
My wife is awesome.
She took me to see Tears for Fears with Hall & Oates at the Allstate Arena, and looking back, I’m a little sad because that ended up being the last time I would ever see Hall & Oates together. 🙁
But before H&O came out…
Tears for Fears absolutely KILLED IT.
WHAT A SHOW.
If you have never seen Tears for Fears live and get the chance…
GO.
Now the album.
Songs from the Big Chair is just a PERFECT album.
Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were at the center of it, with Ian Stanley and Manny Elias helping shape that huge, dramatic 80s sound.
And the songs?
Come on.
“Everybody Wants to Rule the World” — #1
“Shout” — #1
“Head Over Heels” — #3
Then you still have “Mothers Talk,” “The Working Hour,” “I Believe,” “Broken” and “Listen.”
There is NO wasted space here.
The album hit #1 in the U.S., #2 in the UK, became a massive multi-platinum success, and turned Tears for Fears into one of the biggest bands of the decade.
But beyond the numbers, it still sounds incredible.
Big production. Great songs. Great vocals. Weird enough to be interesting, catchy enough to be everywhere.
And seeing those songs live at the Allstate Arena?
Man…
That was a NIGHT.
